Back Country Preservation Educational Training in Willamette Valley

Vintage Window Restoration has a love and passion for sharing knowledge and educating others in the craft of historic preservation, and what funner way than holding class in the middle of a National Forest? We cannot take 100% credit for performing each work session. Many hands and many hours make them possible. Vintage Window Restoration does what it can and is always enthusiastically wanting to go above and beyond expectations in training and supporting the students and staff as they are immersed into the many facets of back country preservation. We work with students from the very beginning of performing a project in a remote setting starting with wilderness and work site safety, proper outdoor living practices, outdoor etiquette, history and the actual hands-on work. Previous workshops have been for a duration of 3 to 5 days, which logistically is a large endeavor but possible with the right team.

Vintage Window Restoration has been involved with two back country preservation workshops. The first with Clatsop Community College’s Historic Preservation Program on the Maxville Cabin Documentation Project. A group of ten students worked together to document a remote cabin on the fringes of the Eagle Cap Wilderness. Lodging and meals had to be coordinated as well as accessibility to the structure from the property owners.

The second experience was working with the University of Oregon’s Master’s Program in Historic Preservation at the Tolmie Peak Lookout Tower performing weatherization work at Mount Rainier National Park. The workshop lasted one week and all amenities had to be driven in and cooked at camping headquarters. The work site and camp site were 3 miles and 1,200 vertical feet apart only accessible by foot.

We are capable of designing the workshops to the structure and students needs while coordinating lodging, meals, logistics and the actual project itself. Along with back country training and back country preservation and documentation, our business covers every aspect of wood windows from repair, new wood windows, wooden screens, exterior facade woodworking and so much in between.
